ANWB ROAD PATROL EXPANDS FLEET WITH FULLY ELECTRIC VEHICLE

FIA Member Club the Koninklijke Nederlandse Toeristenbond (ANWB) has expanded its road patrol (‘Wegenwacht’) fleet with the fully electric Volkswagen ID.Buzz, thus becoming the first road patrol organisation to use the ID.Buzz as a roadside assistance vehicle.

With this new vehicle, the Wegenwacht is moving forward with its goal to achieve zero emission roadside assistance. Last year, 30 ID.4 were purchased and later this year another 80 will follow. This will mean that 15% of the fleet will be electric. The goal for 2025 is to reduce emissions by 25% compared to 2019. By 2030, the Wegenwacht hopes to be completely emission free.

To build the ID.Buzz, the Wegenwacht has selected lightweight materials and had to choose which tools were necessary to make sure that the range was still workable. In total, the materials weigh approximately 600 kilos and the range of the vehicle is around 250 kilometers.

Because of the arrival of the electric vehicles, the Wegenwacht has to come up with a more extensive and smarter charging infrastructure. Over the course of 2023, 150 charging points will be added to the different Wegenwacht stations all throughout the Netherlands. The ID.Buzz will be operational from March this year.
