On 14-15 February, more than 30 participants coming from 14 ASNs, ACNs, Mobility Clubs and FIA staff, gathered in Muscat, Oman, for the second edition of the FIA Environmental Seminar “Together for a better future”.

Organised by the FIA and hosted by the Oman Automobile Association (OAA), the Seminar provided a unique opportunity for the FIA and its Sport and Mobility Members to share knowledge and experiences about the environmental challenges in the Middle East and North African countries.

Presentations and discussions focused on the FIA Environmental strategy and the tools available to support Clubs in organising more sustainable motor sport events.

FIA Club representatives took part in an informative session aimed at understanding the scientific bases behind climate change and empowering them to become proactive contributors to climate action. Then, they worked on proposing solutions for low-carbon Motor Sport and Mobility.

FIA experts shared best practices with Delegates to develop their own environmental policy and implement environmental management at Club level.

Participants were presented with valuable insights from the Emirates Motorsports Organization (EMSO) about their journey to obtain environmental accreditation and other Clubs that shared details about their innovative projects.

Concluding the Seminar, an interactive session addressed the opportunity for participants to engage in the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme, which aims at helping FIA Sport and Mobility Members worldwide to measure and enhance their environmental performance.

With over 100 certified organisations, the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme provides a three-level framework against which FIA Clubs can accredit their activities. On the Mobility side, the programme is part of the FIA Sustainable Mobility Programme supported by the FIA Foundation.

Commenting on the event, FIA Vice President for Sport for MENA His Excellency Sheikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa said: “I would like to thank the Oman Automobile Association for hosting this important event. We are pleased that so many Clubs have joined the Seminar, attesting the strong interest of the MENA region in taking the lead on sustainability. I hope the skills and tools developed during these two days will foster rapid and sustained actions by all the Clubs involved, enabling them to face future challenges.”

OAA Chairman Brigadier Salim Ali Khalifa Al Maskiry said: “We were very pleased to host the FIA Environmental Seminar in the Sultanate as we take on a forward-thinking mindset in improving our motor sport events to be more environmentally friendly. We plan on taking action to have more awareness while organising our motor sport events.”
