Haas F1 Team is proud to announce that it has achieved FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation, the highest level of recognition for its work in environmental sustainability, ahead of the 2023 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Program was created in 2011 to help motorsport and mobility stakeholders measure and enhance their environmental performance, driving change across the sector. The program provides stakeholders with a three-level framework against which to accredit their activities and is consistently reviewed and audited to ensure best practice is met.

Haas F1 Team’s sustainability journey started with being awarded Two-Star accreditation in December 2021, with auditors noting a comprehensive health and safety management system which effectively integrated environmental issues.

Last season, a sustainability taskforce was established with representation across departments, with the support of sustainability and sports specialists Enovation Consulting, to implement a robust environmental management system and sustainability best-practice within the environmental, social and governance framework.

Progress made from Two-Star to Three-Star Environmental Accreditation include:

  • Working with an ISO14001 waste provider
  • The UK site being powered by 100 percent renewable energy, with 80 percent of lights replaced to LEDs
  • Ensured maintained compliance with Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) and Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) requirements
  • Clothing supplier, Tricorp, providing clothing made of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, which will become future season’s apparel
  • Updating travel and transport processes to minimize unnecessary travel outside of the racing calendar, working with an ISO certified travel organization to provide carbon impact reports and global airlines and hotels brands with sustainability programs in place
  • Optimizing equipment shipped (weight and mode of transportation) to races to reduce carbon emissions

Following an in-person audit in December 2022, Haas F1 Team has formally been recognized for its work and awarded FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation.

“I’m very proud of the team for achieving FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation, putting in a lot of extra work during the busiest season of Formula 1 to-date, to ensure we meet this important target,” shared Guenther Steiner, Team Principal of Haas F1 Team. “It’s the highest level of sustainability accreditation awarded by the FIA to its stakeholders, and this has only spurred us on further to review policies and procedures to ensure we remain a benchmark for others. It yet again demonstrates that Haas F1 Team is a small but mighty team and that’s thanks to the passionate taskforce leading our sustainability efforts.”

“I am very pleased to see that the Haas F1 Team has joined many of its competitors on the grid in earning Three-Star Environmental Accreditation from the FIA,” said Felipe Calderón, President of the FIA Environment and Sustainability Commission. “It is encouraging to see the commitment shown by Haas to achieve greater standards in their sustainability programs, and show that they have put in place best practice to continue to develop these standards further moving forward. That more and more Formula 1 teams and motor sport stakeholders are working towards the very highest three-star standard is testament to the importance of the program as we all work towards a more responsible and sustainable society – we have the platform to be leaders and pioneers in this vital mission to create a better world for us all.”

“I would like to congratulate Haas on this fantastic achievement, becoming the latest team to gain the highest level of sustainability accreditation from the FIA and demonstrating their dedication to creating a more sustainable sport,” said Stefano Domenicali, President & CEO of Formula 1. “Formula 1 has its own commitment to be net zero carbon by 2030 and while we have made huge strides towards this goal there is much more to come as we continue the on the journey, including the introduction of advanced sustainable fuels in 2026 which we believe will have a huge impact on the wider automotive industry, and it’s great to see the teams aligned in our aims and making great progress in sustainability.”
