The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will host a double header World RX race meeting and the final round of the 2022 FIA RX2e Rallycross Championship feeder series, as well as a pioneering e-Mobility Experience – the largest e-mobility fair in southern Europe.

With a 41-point advantage over his nearest rival, Johan Kristoffersson is aiming to clinch his fifth drivers’ title this weekend.

Behind the wheel of his Volkswagen RX1e, the Kristoffersson Motorsport star has triumphed six times out of seven in 2022. Victory is by no means guaranteed of course, as, 15 months ago he came off second best there following a series of pulsating scraps with the Hansen brothers.

Kevin and Timmy Hansen could and maybe should have at least one win apiece to their name this year. They’ll be hoping for better luck to enable them to achieve what they did in Catalunya last year – produce a superb team effort to keep Kristoffersson behind them.

Both drivers are embroiled in a fierce four-way fight for the runner-up spot in the overall standings with Ole Christian Veiby and Niclas Grönholm, with a mere three points separating the quartet.

Two young rookies have also shown a great deal of promise this year, namely Gustav Bergström and Klara Andersson. The Volkswagen Dealerteam BAUHAUS teenager finished third in both races last time out at Spa-Francorchamps, while his Construction Equipment Dealer Team counterpart became the first female driver to finish on the podium in international rallycross’ top flight category after an impressive performance in Portugal.

René Münnich’s pace as improved race-by-race and he’ll be aiming for his best result of the season in his SEAT Ibiza RX1e.

Viktor Vranckx leads the RX2e drivers’ standings, and the Belgian teenager only needs a handful of points to be crowned 2022 champion.

It’s his RX2e rival Patrick O’Donovan who, having won both the previous two rounds, arrives in Spain on top form, however. He’s fourth in the standings, behind Swedish duo Isak Sjökvist and Nils Andersson.

Former Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld and ex-MotoGP star Carlos Checa make their rallycross debuts in RX2e.
